The Peak District National Park offers a great cycling experience. And situated as it is in a most beautiful part of the Park, the Paddock House Farm Holiday cottages constitute a great base to enjoy the experience. Paddock House is located in Alstonefield village near the Derbyshire-Staffordshire border towards the south of the Park.

The Peak District offers a network of off-the-road cycling tracks. There are cycling trails suitable for family cycling and trails for experienced mountain bikers. Families can go discovering the quiet country lanes by bike while the mountain bikers can take up the challenge of exploring the remote moorland bridleways.

Peak District offers 65 miles of dedicated off-the-road cycle trails. These trails can be used throughout the year. Other trails are closed during the winter, such as the Monsal Trail tunnels.

The Monsal Trail tunnel is a former railway tunnel used by the Midland Railway Line that was closed in 1968. The tunnel had been closed to the public until the Peak District National Park Authority repaired and resurfaced it, and fixed lighting, to make it suitable for biking, walking and horse riding.

The tunnels offer a spectacular experience for cyclists.  They are lit during daylight hours from dawn to dusk. Light sensors ensure that the lights go off early during winter when days are short, and a two-hour battery backup provides two hours of power if the main power supply goes off.

The tunnels will be closed to the public during winter months.

The White Peak Trails and Cycle Routes give cyclists a great view of spectacular countryside landscape. You will be riding through limestone country where farmland is enclosed by drystone walls. These trails also give you a glimpse into industrial and railway heritage. Ride along the Manifold track and see a scale model of the railway at the Manifold visitor centre.

• ·         The Highs and Lows around Heathersage tour takes you through moorland landscapes, Dark Peak villages and a Norman castle at Castleton
• ·         The Stately Homes and Standing Stones tour covers the Chatsworth park, White Peak landscapes and a Stone Age henge
• ·         The Hills, Dales and Trails tour passes along the river Manifold, through Alstonefield (of the Paddock House Farm Holiday Cottages) and across the river Dove to join the Tissington trail to Hartington
• ·         The High Moors and Gritstone Tors tour is a demanding ride through high moorland landscapes with reservoirs and forests of the Goyt valley
